How Much Data by 2025?

IDC predicts that the global datasphere—the data we create, capture, and replicate—will balloon from approximately 50 zettabytes in 2020 to 175 zettabytes in 2025 (with one zettabyte equalling one trillion gigabytes).

Not only will there be a data deluge over the next five years, but IDC predicts that by 2025, more than 65% of this data will be generated by enterprise organizations, and nearly 30% of it will be created in real time. Analyst firms such as Forrester, Gartner, and Ventana Research have been talking about the value of a BI or data fabric to connect the ever-growing number of data sources. Ventana Research SVP David Menninger notes in the 10 Enterprise Analytics Trends to Watch in 2020 report, “those organizations that adopt a shared fabric among their data and analytics technologies will have an advantage over those that retain a siloed approach.”

Read more about this and other data and analytics trends to watch from Forrester, IDC, Constellation Research, and Ventana Research in the report, and check out more of these startling statistics from IDC’s Data Age 2025 report.
